Given the results of a few Reader Engagement Surveys, we’ve made the call to phase out our current Post Flair setup in favour of something that will serve our community needs a little better.
The current mandatory post tags will be replaced with the optional tags shown here on Friday, May 30th.
This is happening for a few reasons:
- The current post flairs don’t show up well on mobile, and only show up for desktop users if you’re actually in the subreddit,
- We already ask users to provide 3 or more content tags in the title of their submissions,
- There’s just toooooooo many, and
- The new tags are designed to help subscribers find the kinds of engagement that they’re interested in!
We’ll cover this in the upcoming June Community Newsletter too, but the new tags are meant to cater to folks who really really want that human interaction that we’ve been trying to foster lately. In short, you can use these tags to:
- Give folks a sense of whether you’re submitting a long piece or a bit of microfiction,
- Tell folks know that your post is part of a series, or the start of a longer narrative,
- Let people know that you’re looking for friendly chit chat, or invite constructive feedback, or
- Give folks a heads up that you’re new to this!
We’ll also be enabling the filter header that other subs use so that you can find something you’re in the mood for more easily. Want a quick read while you’re getting paid to use the washroom at work? Try the ‘Short and Sweet!’ tag. Wanna know which authors are most likely to return the love when you leave a comment? Go for the ‘I Reply to Comments!’ tag. Maybe try the ‘Part of a Series!’ tag to find your next multi-chapter obsession!
We hope that you’ll all look forward to trying these new tags out, and feel free to suggest other ones that you think this community could benefit from! Again, these will be optional starting this weekend, but we do hope you’ll all consider giving them a spin!
