EroticLiterature and CNC – Rules Update and Reminder

Hi folks,

Please be aware that EroticLiterature is updating its stance on CNC posts.

Moving forward, CNC posts that feature ‘rape play’ will be removed under the banned topics rule, even in cases where the characters clearly have a pre-existing or clear agreement. Rape play has been added to the banned topics list.

CNC dynamics are varied and complex at times, and can often be as simple as two people who trust each other enough to relax expectations around verbalizing consent every time they get down to business. To that end, please continue to submit fun stories that feature:

  • Freeuse, and
  • Sleep play/somnophilia.

Yes, we’re still getting a lot of people who just slap the CNC label on their torture porn. Yes, we can tell the difference. And yes, we do have a good grasp on what CNC can include. That said, we’re so so so so so tired of reading twelve thousand ‘I screamed and kicked and tried to get away and begged him to stop and it hurt so bad‘ stories per year. I’m sure there are other communities that will host those, we’re just not one of them. Even when the characters pre-negotiate a home invasion roleplay, some of you are getting way too carried away.

So, in the spirit of making sure everyone knows where the line is, we’re issuing removals moving forward for CNC stories where combinations of the following are present:

  • Physical altercation or struggle,
  • Verbal withdrawal or denial of consent (hint: the words no, don’t, or stop),
  • A character’s internal narration indicating duress, fear, panic, or pain,
  • An assaulting character that is motivated by anger, vengeance, or an intent to cause harm, and
  • A character whose ability to verbally withdraw consent or physically leave the situation is limited.

This guideline mirrors our stance on non-con, so the only update is that your characters can’t pretend to rape each other now either. Things like intention, tone, and setting will always be taken into consideration, and we do appreciate those of you who have taken time to get things right under the previous framework. There just comes a point where reading hours and hours of violence against women starts to take its toll.

Thanks.
