We’ve been trying to make the newsletter a regular thing for about half a year now and, honestly, it’s just not getting the kind of engagement that makes it worth keeping up with in its current format. Don’t get me wrong, I know some folks do enjoy it, but last month’s edition got about 11% as much traffic as the contest album – not exactly a great showing.
Moving forward, I think we’ll just sprinkle in things like rules announcements or little editorials on an ad hoc basis rather than a big huge post that nobody is reading anyway. We’ll just roll Top Author and contest winners into the monthly contest posts from now on to make things easier. For now, we’ll announce the month’s top authors and call it a day. I guess that makes this the last newsletter? Yeah.
Oh, and we’re going to be late on the November contest. Sorry. It’ll likely get refreshed this coming Wednesday in a different format than the images. If you’ve just gotta scratch that itch for image-prompted practice, you can go do so at my other little side project, r/WorthOneThousandWords. A friend and I have done this exercise there for an audience of like 2000 subscribers for several years, and we’re always down for more company. People have asked me where I dig up the images for each contest, so if you’d like to farm up some inspo, here’s the public multi-reddit custom feed I use.
Contest Winners for October
We had a whopping 80 entries for this month’s contest, which makes October’s edition the most successful one yet! Once again, folks really put their chops on display with some super creative pieces that the mod team definitely enjoyed. As always, we’ll list the top 5 entries and give the top 3 another notch on their Top Author tallies. It’s also a huge pain in the ass to tag it all on mobile so consider filtering by the contest flairs to see if you missed any bangers.
P.S. – Spicy is already Writer in Residence, so I gave the Top Author notch to MeAlt, then I felt bad for only not giving one to Canis, so they got one too. Canis nearly got through their self imposed challenge of writing an entry for every single prompt, so this is a congratulatory gesture on all the hard work.
Top Authors for October
Again, the constant linking is tedious and my brain is mushy today so just…go to these people’s profiles and read their stuff. It’s literally the best out there.
With their 5th Top Author notches coming in this month, both Acorn and StrikingEconomist have now earned the coveted Writer in Residence flair, which denotes their ongoing commitment to exceptional storytelling. Be sure to keep an eye out for their work, as I’m sure neither of these two titans will be content to rest on their laurels. Also worth noting is the fact that swiftmotives is now sitting on an easy 4 wins, making their promotion next month a near-certainty.
Well done all, and keep up the tremendous work!
RIP Newsletter, we barely knew ye.
